Biography Cesaltina
Pires completed her undergraduate degree in
Economics at Nova SBE (UNL) and her MBA at INSEAD. She holds a PhD in
Economics from MIT. She was a Teaching Assistant at Harvard University and an
Assistant Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics.
Currently, she is a Full Professor in the Management Department of the
University of Évora, where she is the Director of
the Management PhD program. She was the Scientific Coordinator of the
Centre for Advanced Studies in Management and Economics (CEFAGE), from 2006 to 2015. Now she is
the head of the Industrial Economics and Business Strategy research group. Her research interests include the areas of
Industrial Economics, Decision Theory and Game Theory. She published in
scientific journals such as International
Journal of Game Theory, International
Journal of Industrial Organization, Regional
Science and Urban Economics, Annals
of Regional Science, Theory and
Decision, Journal of Policy
Modeling, Journal of Financial
Services Research and Quantitative
Finance, among others. She
loves teaching and has been teaching many courses in the areas of Management,
Economics and Mathematics. She is the author of two leading textbooks: «Cálculo para Economia e Gestão» and «Mercados e Investimentos Financeiros». She supervised a dozen PhD students and a dozen Master students. She is a
proud mother of four children (Vasco, Raul, Bruno and Joana). When she was
younger she loved to play soccer. She started to run regularly when she was
18 and she still does (in the Summer she prefers swimming). She has a vegetable
garden and bakes bread. |
Research Unit CEFAGE CEFAGE is one of
the top research units in Management and Economics in Portugal. In the two
previous international evaluations (under the supervision of the Portuguese
National Science Foundation) CEFAGE was ranked
Excellent and Very Good,
in 2007 and 2014 respectively. We have 4 Research Groups: "Industrial Economics and Business Strategy",
"Econometrics, Statistics and
Operations Research", "Finance"
and "Labour, Regional and Macroeconomic". Management Ph.D. Program
Programa de Doutoramento em Gestão This program is aimed at candidates who
intend to pursue an academic career or do research in the field of management
in both public and private institutions. It is also suitable for those who
want to pursue top management careers in various fields of Management
(Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, Organization and
Information Systems, Operations Management). The program includes coursework for one year.
The thesis is expected to take 3 years. The program is linked to CEFAGE and
the students are expected to participate in CEFAGE activities. |
